It’s always important to take measures to keep yourself healthy and prevent catching a cold or flu, but practices to prevent the spread of germs have never been more vital than during the current COVID-19 pandemic. To protect yourself and others, be sure to take the following actions.
Keep Your Hands Clean
You use your hands all day, every day and touch hundreds of objects and surfaces, which is why washing and sanitizing is one of the best ways to ward off hand germs. Try to wash your hands as often as possible to prevent spreading germs to others, but to keep yourself safe, be sure to wash before using your hands to touch food, your face or anything that will come into contact with your face. Using hand sanitizer is excellent for when washing your hands isn’t an option, but washing is best since sanitizer may not kill all germs.
Keep Your Distance From Others
Especially to prevent the spread of COVID-19, it’s crucial to practice social distancing. Some viruses, including this one, can be spread through the air by talking, coughing or sneezing, so besides wearing a mask, keeping your distance from others will ensure that you won’t spread sickness to others and that they won’t spread sickness to you. If you need to be around others, wear a mask, stay as far away from others as possible and try not to touch a lot of surfaces, especially your own face.
Keep Your Immune System Healthy
The previous two measures will keep you healthy in the immediate future, but it’s also important to maintain a healthy lifestyle to ensure that your immune system is functional and can fight off any germs that you happen to come into contact with. Actions you can take include getting enough sleep, eating enough fruits and vegetables, getting enough exercise, getting flu shots and quitting smoking.
Being responsible for your own health while considering the health of others is important now more than ever. Be sure to check the CDC’s website for more information on how to protect yourself.
